Causes of Global Warming

causes of global warming As mentioned earlier, global warming is caused by the greenhouse effect and excess carbon dioxide in our atmosphere. This carbon dioxide comes from many different sources, all of which contribute to some degree to the problem of global warming.

The biggest sources of carbon dioxide emissions are:

  • Electricity
  • Manufacturing and Industry
  • Vehicles
  • Fuel for Heating
During the production of electricity, fossil fuels are often burned. Coal, oil, and natural gas are all used to generate electricity, and these release large amounts of carbon dioxide. Some of our electricity comes from sources that do not produce these emissions, such as nuclear and hydroelectric power, but the majority comes from fossil fuels. Industries use a large amount of fossil fuels, causing them to be one of the biggest emitters of carbon dioxide. These industries produce the manufactured goods that we buy, as well as modify raw materials other uses.

The last two major sources of carbon dioxide are transportation vehicles, for both people and the goods that we buy, and the fossil fuels used to heat the buildings we live and work in. There are also many other fairly significant sources of carbon dioxide that are not man-made, such as volcanoes and forest fires.
